Help Through A Forensic Consultation
The Forensic Hypnosis 'FIMET' techniques described on this website are idealy suited for helping people who have:
(a) experienced some form of traumatic incident(s) and are struggling to process them (get over them), or are suffering in some way as a consequence of it
(b) experienced some form of traumatic incident(s), and have poor memory recall (or none at all) about the experience(s)
(c) experienced some form of traumatic incident(s), have poor memory recall (or none at all) about the experience(s) and where the information gathered about the experience(s) may be used in Civil or Criminal legal proceedings
The consultations aim to help clients to elicit as much information as possible surrounding an incident (or incidents), when this information may be used in a police investigation and/or legal proceedings, without inadvertently creating memory distortions or inaccuracies.
Evenly more importantly, a forensic hypnosis (or 'FIMET') session can provide the very best way for clients to process and move on from a traumatic incident(s). Our consultations combine tried and tested memory-enhancing techniques with proven psychotherapeutic ones.
What Happens in a Typical Consultation?
Typically you will first have a chat with the practitioner where the process will be fully explained to you and any questions and concerns that you may have will be answered.
You will then either be relaxed into a light hypnotic state (during which you will be fully in control but merely very relaxed) or, you will simply be asked to relax a little through breathing slowly and deeply. If hypnosis is used, the hypnotic induction will be entirely devoid of suggestive or leading language and focuses solely on a progressive relaxation.
The use of hypnosis merely helps you to feel relaxed and calm, assisting in building trust and rapport and a sense of safety. The fact that you are relaxed, with your eyes closed helps to block out any distractions and ensures that you remain focused. The Forensic and Investigative Memory Enhancing Techniques that we use fully take into account the UK Home Office, the Crown Prosecution Service and the British Psychological Society Guidelines regarding the use of hypnosis as well as the Police and Criminal Evidence Act. If the information gathered in the session may be used in court, then hypnosis will not be used.
Once you are relaxed, you will then asked to take your mind back to the event(s) in question. From then on, you will be asked to verbalise whatever comes into your mind, through Free Association. True Free Association, as used here, is all about getting the you to verbalise WHATEVER experiences come into your mind, without any form of intellectual interruption or censorship.
After one experience has been verbalised this should be linked onto the next, without any thought or explanation by you or the therapist. This avoids any potentially damaging suggestions or direction on the part of the therapist as well as ensuring that all information is divulged. It is, also, the best way of helping you to resolve the traumatic experience by allowing you to work through the incident at your own pace. As the incident is worked through you will release any unresolved or 'bottled up' emotions relating to the experience, enabling you to process and move on from the incident.
It is not really the 'hypnosis' per se (if that is used) that assists in recalling and processing the incident but the use of the tried and tested 'mental reinstatement of context' and 'Free Association' techniques in addition to the fact that an extremely safe and non-judgemental atmosphere is created.
An audio recording of a Forensic session is conducted from start to finish so that a complete record of the information divulged is obtained.
